Which Gutter Hooks Should You Choose? Classic 36mm, 36mm Easy Fit or Large 68mm

Classic 36mm and 36mm Easy Fit share the same height but have different profiles. Large 68mm has a longer body and a wider, partly enclosed cable entry. Choose the shape and handling features you prefer, then check that the upper curve suits your gutter lip and the lower channel suits your light cable.

Full product images identify each design. Use the stated dimensions and height chart to compare physical size.

Compare the actual height and width

Overall height from the stated product dimensions. These bars show height only, not the hook outline or clip opening.

The two 36mm designs are the same height. Classic is 16mm wide, while Easy Fit is 12mm wide; the fitting curves and contact surfaces also differ. Large measures 68 × 20mm, making its body about 1.9 times the height of either 36mm design.

Overall height and width describe the outside of the hook. Fit depends on the upper curve engaging the gutter lip and the lower channel accommodating the light cable. Overall size is not a cable-diameter or load rating.

Choose by the fitting features you want

Classic 36mm for a compact S-shaped profile

Choose Classic if you prefer a compact S-shaped hook and a firm grip around a compatible gutter lip. The upper curve clips onto the gutter edge, while the lower opening carries the light cable. Its 36 × 16mm body is the wider of the two compact designs.

36mm Easy Fit for smoother fitting curves

Choose Easy Fit if you want smoother curves while keeping a compact 36mm hook. Fine serrations on the inner contact surface add grip. Its 12mm overall width gives it a different profile from Classic, despite the matching height.

Large 68mm for a longer body and wider cable entry

Choose Large if you prefer a longer hook to hold while fitting, or want the wider entry of its partly enclosed lower channel. The side opening gives the cable a clear loading point, while the curved body extends further below the gutter.

Check the gutter lip and cable before buying

First, look at the gutter edge the upper curve will grip. A rolled lip or a guard can obstruct that area. Then check the outside diameter of the cable that will sit in the lower channel. With thick rope lights, the cable channel and the light manufacturer's support requirements matter more than the height printed on the hook.

Test one hook at a safely accessible point before fitting the full display. A suitable hook should stay seated with the cable resting comfortably in its channel. Keep plugs, transformers and bulky connectors supported separately.

Choose the colour and quantity

White hooks usually blend with white guttering. Black hooks suit dark guttering or a black light cable. Both colours are available in each design, so you can choose the profile first and then match the finish to your display.

For a neat layout, plan around 30–40cm between hooks and use closer spacing where your light set requires it. At 30cm spacing, a straight 12-metre run needs 41 hooks including both ends. Classic or Easy Fit customers can choose a 50 pack; Large customers can combine two 24 packs for 48 hooks.

Questions about choosing gutter hooks

Which design should I choose for icicle lights

All three designs are intended for suitable Christmas light cables, including icicle sets. Choose a profile that fits the gutter lip and holds the horizontal feed cable comfortably. Let the drops hang freely and follow the light manufacturer's support spacing.

Does 68mm mean the hook fits a 68mm gutter edge

No. It is the overall hook height. The upper curve fits around the gutter lip, so compare that shape and the accessible edge of your gutter when choosing a design.

Can the hooks be reused next Christmas

The PP hooks are intended for seasonal fitting and removal. Take them down with the lights, store them dry and check their condition before the next display. Replace any that are damaged or no longer keep their shape.
